On set – Making connections

Most people working in the film industry probably loves what they do, and are either extremely good at it or so passionate that they never give up no matter what. But even though they are all educated or self-taught in a certain area, what I have noticed is that most of them also want to do something else in film.

I’ve had so many interesting conversations with individuals on the production crew that express their creative energy in such a fervor that for any creative person this is the perfect environment for exposure and development, both for projects and for personal change.

And this environment thrives on the passion and ideas that gets passed around, because there is a fundamental understanding of creating something from nothing. A film might be born within an idea of an individual, but it is created by a team, solving the problems, merging the aesthetic and technical aspects, teaching and learning at the same time. And it is easy to express an idea without having to prove your expertise or previous experience. This has been an overwhelming couple of weeks where I have never felt such a positive response on my own ideas and the actual possibility of making them more than just dormant words on my computer screen. The people working on this production are willing to do whatever to be a part of it, because they want to learn, and become a sponge of all the impressions that are flowing everywhere. I’ve met experienced actors with years in the business, sound engineers with musical prowess, production assistants that has written and directed a collection of films and shorts, and they all continue to surprise me with their creative output and ideas.

This opens up not only personal connections but even more importantly professional ones. It doesn’t matter what you have made before, being a complete novice or having made several films, the most important thing is a good idea.

I’ve made some good friends over a short period of time during this production, friends that I can’t wait to collaborate with and create our own ideas into films.
